A plumb line is a line, cable or string used to measure depth. It is weighted at one end with a lead (sounding lead). The folds of paper covered with lead pencil (graphite), vestiges of an origami boat, recall lines, hence this analogy to plumb lines, the sea, depth.
Une ligne à plomb est une ligne, un câble ou un cordeau utilisé pour mesurer la profondeur. Il est lesté à une extrémité avec un plomb (plomb de sondage). Les pliages du papier recouvert de mine de plomb (graphite), vestiges d’un bateau origami, rappellent des lignes, d’où cette analogie aux lignes à plomb, à la mer, au profondeur.
